Major smash on M40

THE M40 southbound is expected to be shut for the next four hours after an accident.

Firefighters were called at 1.59pm, after a reported two vehicle collision between junctions 2, Beaconsfield, and 1A, which links to the M25.

Mark Lister, spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service, said the driver of a lorry was trapped, and two other people had suffered injuries.

The air ambulance is in attendance, and two other helicopters have been at the scene.

Queues are stretching back to junction 2, which has been blocked off by the police.

Motorists have got out of their cars on the carriageway as they wait.

Traffic is flowing freely on the northbound carriageway.

More to come.
