Snooker club hours to be decided today

THE opening hours of a snooker club that serves alcohol later than any other venue in Wycombe will be decided at a Wycombe District Council licensing meeting today.

Nearby flat owners at the Bankside development hope the operating times of the Hurricane Room in Corporation Street will be cut.

They say that drunken revellers are making their lives a misery and causing them to lose sleep.

Residents spokesman Mike Kirkwood, 42, said: "There have been fights, arguments, people shouting and swearing, illegal parking, loud music from cars, car doors slamming, urinating, spitting and littering."

The panel, due to meet at 10.30am at the council's Queen Victoria Road offices, has powers which include changing the opening hours, removing a licensed activity and revoking the licence.

Well who in their right mind would buy a flat in a centre of town location like that.... The snooker hall has been there for years...the flats for 5 minutes. Not much more to say really!

Just because they have been there longer it doesn't give them the right to have antisocial behaviour outside.

The customers will learn soon enough. Behave themselves or lose the facility.

Illegal parking is the pizza dilevery drivers.
All the drunks are probably from somewhere else and if they are outside the POOL CLUB then it has nothing to do with them as they aren't on the premises, And is just Anti-social behaviour!
Just someone trying to stop people having a good time.
Some of you are probably like those idiots at gerrards cross and live near heathrow. piece of advice don't sit there and listen.
Also BFP could you at least go into this without making the pool club like it is an eyesore? You are supposed to report the news you are exceedingly biased I haven't seen you talking to the Employees of the Hurricane Room to get their side of the Story, so who ever wrote this articles along with the residents who haven't looked before buying go take a long walk of a short pier!

What a stupid place to build flats. And the people who bought must be even dumber.

BFP - glad its not only me thats noticed how extremely biased the view in the reports are.....

not surprisig seeing as they have kids for reporters.

if the hours get shortened at fast eddies its an absolute disgrace.... the same with live music at the antelope - put up or shut up - im sick of pople moaning about everything -

Tharus - Totally agree with you that this is a petty complaint because they've bought propety in an area without doing their research, but i'm a bit confused by "Some of you are probably like those idiots at gerrards cross and live near heathrow. piece of advice don't sit there and listen.
" I wasn't aware there was any issue with heathrow being near Gerrards Cross, have they moved it?

On the subject though i think the residents should have to provide some proof that the anti-social behaviour is being caused by the pool club then the club should be given time to rectify any problems.

I totally agree!! Who on earth would want to live in the middle of the town? They're not even nice looking places!! Those stupid railings (which are meant to look like glamorous balconies) are a far far worse eyesore than the fire station doors!!!!!
What snobbery to actually admit to live there!!
I, personally, find the slums in Liverpool more appealing (to look at).

I hope the decision is in favour of the pool club. I hate it when people move in then decide the surroundings have to conform to what they want. If you don't like the area, don't move there! The pool club was open late way before anyone moved into the flats. It's a town centre location, therefore you get town centre noise. Live with it or find somewhere else.

I, personally, would have never believed anyone would ever be dwelling anywhere near these premises!!
What a rough road to live on!!!!
In fact, I can't ever imagine that I would ever think that anyone would ever live on that road!!!!
It used to be the 'ritz' bingo club, the old social services offices ----- NEVER a site for houses!!!! NEVER

Bulldoze fast eddies with all the scum in it. It will not only stop the noise but a lot of crime too.

This has happened before when they built new dwellings near to the Nags Head and then removed the music license.

The amount of big name bands that used to come out from London to play there would amaze most people, but all this musical heritage was wiped away by one nimby, johny-come-lately complainer.
Posted by: Natasha, High Wycombe on 11:24am Wed 14 May 08
This is stupid!
most of the noise comes from the pizza deliverly place the cars going up & down with their loud silly music and all their friends hanging around outside the place!
They have bouncers at the Hurricane room so if their was any trouble surely it wouldnt go on for long! and also there is a new bar that will be opening soon next door so these people better move out if they want quiet! ITS THE TOWN CENTRE!!! NOISE WILL BE MADE!!!

Perhaps the licence should end at a sensible time just so those that use the club can go to work the next day?
Posted by: Yervie, CSP on 11:53am Wed 14 May 08
I think everyones made the right sort of comment! Its stupid that you live in a town centre but expect peace n quite!End of the day some people enjoy staying up till 6 in the morning and getting the first train in the moring back home!

- I agree you wil get noise if you live in a town and they should expect some but urinating and spitting is scum behaviour wherever it happens and cannot be condoned by anyone.

WORK? I think that is "a four lettered" word to most of them, if you get my drift ;)

The residents at gerrards cross were afraid that extra flights that they thought were gonna come from heathrow would be flying overhead making a lot of noise disturbing the peace. But planes flying overhead at high altitude can be rarely heard from the ground

Tharus - Fair enough, never heard that before. Same as this complete no-issue then.

I think if you were to look for long enough the arguments and shouting outside is coming from the trouble makers the bouncers dont let in! The club has been open til that time for ages and there is hardly ever any trouble in there. Yes i do agree with the **** and spitting outside but im sure if you were to walk around any town at night instead of sitting and wathching out your window then you will find this is a problem! yes there are some idiots that do that but late night pool clubs have been around for a long time and to close the only 1 in high wycombe because of drunken twats would be a disgrace!

+ i thought you must of got free memberships with those flats as they look so cheap!

hmm, what a lucid response. And I guess the REAL question here is if the club wasn't there, would these scum still be there? If so, then its nothing to do with the club, if not, then it is. And it really does not matter how long the club has been there - the important thing is that something is done about the 'drunken twats' - maybe the threat of closure will force the club to do something a bit more meaningful other than washing their hands of it...

Surely on that basis they should also shut all pubs, clubs, fast food restaurants, kebab vans, bus stations, train stations and any other place where these "scum" congregate...

Yes! they should...at a sensible time of night. Half the poor darlings can't get up the next day!

i do agree with the comments made but i think talking about closing the place at the first site of trouble is taking things a bit far. The club owners are not are respectable people and i think now they know there is a problem they should be given the chance to resolve it. yes, if the problem continues then the council may want to look into the opening hours but as someone said in an earlier comment there are bouncers outside so if they are made aware that there is a problem then they can do something about it.
most of the pool club customers are there just to play pool and have a late night drink, i think if they are also made aware they will make sure they are quiet as they leave as we dont want it to close. does anyone know the outcome of the meeting yet?

Pubs should be open from 11am to 11pm, and be shut from 1pm to 3pm, and all beer should be 50p a pint. Just like when I were a lad.

...all drinking establishments, and kids should play with wooden hoops and sticks, and cars should be preceeded by a man with a flag, and the windsor chair should be in every home, and steps should be scrubbed by pregnant women with hairscaves and aprons.
