New contract for transport in Bucks
THE task of catering for the transport needs of more than 17,000 Buckinghamshire residents has been awarded to Amey plc.
From June 1, Amey will be responsible for managing the transport of schoolchildren, students, and children and adults under social care around the county.
Its contract with Buckinghamshire County Council marks the end of an 18-month review of the way transport is organised which aims to improve efficiency.
Valerie Letheren, cabinet member for transportation, said: "Client Transport is integral to local communities across Buckinghamshire and is a lifeline to those who need to use it.
"We are looking forward to working with Amey on continuing to provide high quality levels of transport and care for our residents. We are pleased that our dedicated and experienced staff will continue to be involved in providing client transport services.
"There are exciting times ahead and we will be working together to build even better services for those who rely on them."
Steve Helliwell, managing director of logistics at Amey, said: "Working with Buckinghamshire County Council to deliver these essential services to the community is a much welcomed opportunity for Amey.
"We are looking forward to working together to enhance and build on the existing provision in order to create a positive impact for all those that rely on the service."
