Factory plans deferred after concerns over noise
THE development of a former furniture factory has been put on hold because of worries over noise pollution.
Member of the Wycombe Dicstrict Council's Development Control Committee deferred plans to rebuild part of the T&L sawmills site in Lane End tonight so officers could negotiate with the applicant, Top event Ltd.
The company wants to demolish two units at the site in The Row and replace them with a pair of two storey buildings which could be used for offices and light industry.
The proposals also sought to build a new service road and car parking at the factory, which is currently used by a haulage company.
Councillors were keen to pass the plans as they provided an opportunity to build a footpath through the site which would link the homes around it to the centre of the village.
But Jean Teesdale (Cons, Chiltern Rise) was concerned about the noise generated by lorries currently using the site.
She said: "I do share concerns about noise, it's already a problem there. There's no doubt that this site needs clearing up, it's just we do have to take into consideration the residential amenities of people living close by."
Cllr Ian McEnnis (Cons, Chiltern Rise) agreed with her and proposed tougher restrictions on the hours the site could be used by lorries and forklifts compared to those suggested by officers.
The committee agreed by a majority of eight to four to defer the plans so more negotiations could be made about the positioning of the footpath, sound proofing and hours of use.
