Angry residents question Pinewood bosses

INCENSED residents spoke against plans to expand world-famous Pinewood Film Studios tonight.

Householders objected to proposals to build around 2,000 homes within the complex in Iver Heath.

Pinewood's chief executive Ivan Dunleavy and board members from the company held a public meeting in Fulmer Village Hall, in Windmill Road.

The village of 450 residents is next to land to the east of Pinewood Studios where there are plans to create Project Pinewood'.

The multi-million pound extension would see streetscapes such as a Venetian Canal and the streets of New York being built.

Speaking at the meeting Sharon Parsons, a resident of Pinewood Green, Iver, said: "That's green belt land. Someone who loves England would not propose this on green belt land.

"The greenbelt issue means it should be protected not turned into Disneyland."

Mr Dunleavy, who denied the studios would become a theme park, said: "We need to demonstrate a special case as part of this planning application."

And Sylvie Lowe, who has lived in Pinewood Green for 16 years, said: "I believe my garden will be overlooking Prague. I will be sitting in my garden in the summer listening to action,' shoot'."

Other residents questioned how much profit the proposed housing development would create for the company and whether it would go ahead without the homes - but studio bosses said they did not have answers yet.

Speaking after the meeting chairman of Fulmer Parish Council Ronnie Lamb said he thought it gave a slightly better' insight to the plans.

Cllr Lamb said: "It was a complete lack of detail. What we got was fairly general information. I think people in Fulmer are still shell-shocked about the whole thing."

Mr Dunleavy also spoke about how the project would benefit creative industries in Britain. Andrew Smith, group director for corporate affairs, said: "We very much appreciate he opportunity to speak to Fulmer residents and representatives again. We found the issues raised very informative and will ensure they are taken into account as the proposals progress."

The company are due to hold a public exhibition in July this year as part of its public consultation on the project before a planning application is submitted later this year, he added.

why are Pinewood wanting to build houses, if its greenbelt land then there is no way this application should even be looked at

Again the bucks free press seemed to have not talked in depth with pinewood to see what they actually have planned and where they got their information from. has the reporter who wrote this actually researched whether it is green belt land or just taken the word of local residents?

I think it sounds like a wonderful idea and if they own the land and it is within their boundary good luck to them! better than some annoying housing developer building houses on a flood plane or at an airport which is more than likely older than they are!

I used to work at Pinewood, the site is massive and even when shooting it's not that noisy. The neighbour that says he'd be overlooking prague, I'd be happy with that, if ya don't like it I'll do a swap with you!

With regard to the comment above:

This certainly is Green Belt land, as can be seen clearly on the South Bucks Development Plan.

One of the problems is that Pinewood are not currently giving any detailed information, as Cllr Lamb made clear. The meeting was notable for the evasion and complete lack of proper answers to questions.

Mr Reid above has partially answered the Green Belt issue. Pinewood Studios bought the land, whih is not within its boundry, with the hidden agenda of property development tagged onto the back of "film industry" and "national interest".
This is a scam and smokescreen, Pinewood have been less than honest regarding their plans which are there to generate vast profit whilst ignoring local objections.
The one decent proposal for additional training of young people could easily be accommodated on their present site by replacing them for the Bus, Courier, Distribution and Freight forwarding operations from their site that do not have planning permission in the first place and blight our lives with 24/7 operations.
Pinewood have a battle on their hands as this will never gain local approval.
The shareholders of Pinewood Sheperton would be well advised to compel their management numptys to forget this folly and stop further waste of their money.
