Bus fares rise due to fuel costs
ONE of Wycombe's bus operators has said it has no choice but to raise its fares due to the rising price of fuel.
Arriva, which operates buses across south Bucks, will increase the price on most of its routes between 10p and 20p.
Brian Drury, commercial director for Arriva, said "We have tried to absorb the rising cost of fuel but it has now reached a point where we must pass on an increase to our customers in the High Wycombe area, but we have tried to limit this."
However the price of the High Wycombe Family Shopper and day, week and 4 weekly tickets will remain at the same price.

sbjones i agree with what u say. bus prices are increasing higher and higher. and this is to me unacceptable.

You’re far better off going by car.
Using a car is cheaper than going by bus, more reliable and more convenient.

hmm.. but think about this. some people don't have cars to use. so they more or less have to use a bus to e.g. travel to work etc. so this change would affect them a lot..

Well done one of Wycombe's bus operators, at a time when some people are considering using buses (I used one last night - NEVER again), you put the prices up.
And as mentioned above, most supermarkets are now reducing petrol prices.
This is another tax on the people.

We shall all grind to a stop in our increasingly expensive cars that often really don't go very far at all.
In fact most just sit there most of the day.
Particularly in Wycombe.
We should have lots of comfortable minibuses zipping all over town.
And the concept of 'bus route' should be redefined.
Has the time not arrived for onboard bus computers that, minute by minute, redefine 'a route' depending on where you want to go?
We shall all grind to a stop in our increasingly expensive cars that often really don't go very far at all.

My BMW does 345 miles on a full tank, and once I am out of High Wycombe the roads are fine.
Who would pay for your "comfortable minibuses zipping all over town"; have you ever got a taxi in Wycombe - clapped out Peugeots with wipe clean plastic sest covers...
And as for your “on board bus/computer” idea, if the bus companies can not even afford fuel, are they going to invest in such a ludicrous idea?
For now I am happy to pay £500 road tax and 114p/litre to drive in leather seated, air conditioned luxury.

Cars are far better and more practical than busses. Why would I travel on an expensive bus when I can use my trusty car? You don’t get to hear the sound of a wonderful historic push-rod engine when you use a bus either!

think about this. a couple of years ago. bus prices wernt all that high. now they have reached outrageous prices. i mean what are they trying to do?? daylight robbery..
