I CAN understand the disappointment felt by Maurice Oram in his election defeat, having lost in the recent elections myself.

However, I do think it's a bit disingenuous to say those people who haven't lived in Marlow for many years do not care about our town. Does Mr Oram have evidence that only long-standing residents voted?

The fact of the matter is, many people turned against the Liberal Democrats because of their tax and spend policies. For example the Liberal Democrats are the only main political party to have road pricing as a policy, they want to charge drivers up to £1.30 per mile, on top of the existing taxes!

Whilst out canvassing some people raised this issue with me (even though it is not a local council issue) and told me they were changing their vote because of it.

When I challenged one of the Liberal Democrat candidates about this policy and how it would adversely affect the lower paid and pensioners, the reaction was "poor people don't own cars so they won't be affected", with such arrogance they deserve to lose!
