Help us find a Star millennium project

The search is on to find a special community project that this newspaper can back for the Year 2000.

We want to do something really spectacular to help local people as our way of marking the new millennium. So I'm appealing to all organisations to send in details of a project in South Bucks that might fit the bill.

We can only do one special appeal and it has to be something that will significantly benefit our community over the next few years.

The idea would be to launch the appeal in the next few months and aim to raise the money to achieve its goals by the time Big Ben chimes in 2000.

I'm open to any suggestions (providing they are polite). Please put them in writing to Steve Cohen, Editor's Chair, The Star, Gomm Road, High Wycombe, Bucks, HP13 7DW.

On the subject of the Year 2000, we are still very concerned about the effect of the so-called Millennium Bug which could cause computer chaos around the globe.

I am therefore grateful to William T Cooley, of Coulson Court, Prestwood. He sent me a cutting from the Times which showed how a computer wrote a letter to a dead man, addressing it to "Mr Peter Low deceased".

William says this underlines the need to be wary of computers. "Perhaps they should be classified with all the other dangerous drugs," he says.
