COUNCILLORS have agreed to a £4,000 lifeline for youngsters at Marlow Youth Centre.

The centre, in Wycombe Road, which faced closure during recent county council budget cuts, has been promised the money by Wycombe District Council policy and resources committee.

In February, Buckinghamshire county councillors restored 50 per cent of the centre's £7,000 grant, but this left a shortfall.

The district council said the cash help is a one-off to help crisis-hit youth services across the district.

Youth worker Joan Kent said: "Obviously, I am delighted. It will make a huge difference to the centre.

"I think Wycombe District Council have been a great supporter of youth services in general. However, we have to err on the side of caution. The amount is for this year only."

Cllr Margaret Done, vice-president of the centre, said of the future: "We are really delving into means of fundraising."
