WORLD cup footballer Nobby Stiles (left) received a standing ovation when he attended a fundraising dinner to celebrate the 50th anniversary of High Wycombe Round Table.
The former World Cup player had diners in stitches when he recounted details of his footballing career last Friday evening. The black-tie dinner at Adams Park, High Wycombe, raised £2,200 which will be split between various local charities, apart from £250 that will go towards the national charity Children's Wish.
High Wycombe Round Table's chairman Eddie Gavin said: "Nobby was a very interesting speaker and certainly held everyone's attention."
"Everyone laughed when he told about his first visit to Manchester United when he was a young man. His father was an undertaker and took Nobby to his first important meeting with the manager Matt Bushy in a hearse."
