Town centre sex attack

THE need for closed circuit television in Beaconsfield has been highlighted after a woman was subjected to a terrifying indecent assault.

Police want to trace anyone who may have witnessed the attack which happened between 11.30pm and 11.45pm last Wednesday in Burkes Road, Beaconsfield.

The 22-year-old victim was walking home from a night out in the town centre when a man approached her from behind.

He grabbed her by the shoulders and hair and put his hand over her mouth before dragging her off into a nearby garden and indecently assaulting her. After the attack, the man ran off down Burkes Road towards Burkes Crescent.

Sergeant Gerry Lister of Beaconsfield Police said: "This is a typical of the kind of offence that could be either deterred or would be affected by CCTV."

The outcome of a funding bid for the cameras, which was backed by traders, Beaconsfield Town Council and police, should be known later this month.

Police spokesman Marc Sanderson said: "This young lady has been left extremely distressed and shaken by what was a very nasty attack indeed. We desperately need to speak to anyone who saw what happened or has any information about this man at all."

Police also want to trace a dark blue medium-sized saloon car which was spotted in the area at the time.

The attacker was described as white, aged 28 or 29 and was about 5ft 11ins tall. He was of slim build and had short dark hair and was wearing a cream-coloured jumper and black jeans.

Anyone with any information should contact Gerrards Cross CID on (01296) 396819.
